The game is quite good. The monsters are tough. It looks like it will be a hit. I am not done with it yet but so far this is how I feel about it.
The graphics are not the earth-shattering onslaught that I think people were expecting. I know I was under the impression that this would be some kind of end all be all graphic monster. I personally thought Far Cry was better graphically.
Doom 3 - I am running on a p4 3.0ghz 1gig Ram with 6800GT graphic card. I am running the game at 1600X1200 with AA set to 4X and all graphics effects set to high. I am having no trouble at all right now with it. However, I have played in nothing but closed in areas. I don't know what comes later so I might have to reevaluate my graphics level then. The gameplay is completely old school. It feels good. You are forced to relearn how to aim properly because there aren't really any near misses in this game. With the shotgun, for instance, I had to shoot the first serious baddy I ran into 5 times. This is because my aiming was all over the place. However, the second one that I ran into I killed in one shot because I'd gotten used to the aiming situation and I fired directly into his torso.
Personally, I like the way the game feels. I am not earth shatteringly impressed with it yet. That might change. Having said that, I do not feel like I didn't get my monies worth. I'm all about cut scenes and story in the game so I'm looking forward to finishing it.
