Rolling Stones, Let It Bleed - Although 'Let It Bleed' is of the best Stones albums, it's not quite as consistent as its predecessor and finest album 'Beggars Banquet'. For a start there are 2 questionable tracks; 'Monkey Man', which to be frank is pretty dire by Stones standards. 'Country Honk' is a country & western parody of their number 1 hit 'Honky Tonk Woman'. A waste of space and an obvious filler. Apart from these 2 bummers, the remaining tracks range from good to excellent. Three tracks stand out; the opener 'Gimme Shelter' is a classic. 'Midnight Rambler' is a 7 minute blues jam, which keeps the interest going throughout. The closing track 'You can't always get what you want' is a gospel rouser, and is sheer joy. It reminds me of how good the Stones were in their younger days.
LIB is overall a fine Stones album and I never tire of listening to it. It's worth a buy, but listen first.
