General Comments

My Castle Acoustics Richmond 3 were purchased to replace the supplied speakers in a Denon UD-M30 micro system. They're used in a small bedsit 3.5 x 3.5m.

From straight out of the box they sounded far better than the speakers they replaced; now they are beginning to run-in (60 hrs at least) they are gorgeous. The treble is sweet, yet can reproduce HF from both metallic and non-metallic sources with equal candour; midrange is clear, powerful and uncoloured - voices, sung or spoken, are very clear; bass is amazing for such a small speaker - I've retired my Eltax Impact 6 subwoofer as it no-longer adds anything useful. I'm bang in the middle of a major "hear the CD collection anew" experience at the moment, and am finding so much new information and understandable lyrics that I've not bought any new music for weeks!

I love the simple elegant shape of the unit, the finish - all real wood veneer, both outside and, amazingly INSIDE the box (apparently it balances the sound of the cabinet itself); they even source the woods from renewable sources. I like the fact they're made in Britain, too - we need the manufacturing jobs!

The only small downside is that this model is about to be replaced, so grab some now if you can - they're on special offer with a number of dealers and the new model will be significantly costlier than the old. Worth it, though!
