Good Points

Looks good. Feels good. A/D converters sound good. Can be hooked up to any D/A converters you want. Nice aux input gives a third channel for sequencers.

Bad Points

Digital. Crossfader curve. Phase effect. Headphone jack.

General Comments

Well, it is digital rather than high-end analog. There are no digital inputs for connection to Numark digital capable decks. Numark still doesn't do crossfader curves correctly...they still sum in the middle without the slight dip in each channel when in the middle. Stanton, of course, actually overdoes the dip on the SA-8, but Rane, Pioneer, and Vestax all do it correctly. THE HEADPHONE DAC/AMP/EQ SYSTEM DOWNRIGHT SUCKS! Zero low bass on the headphone jack. Very digital sounding headphone DAC. YOu need the hp eq at 10 o'clock to get anything resembling a proper response, and it just sounds very slappy, midrangy, and cold through it. And it's also lacking in power. The phase crossfader effect should also have been set up to add phase as you reach the center, so that the channel you are starting from or going to becomes slightly out of phase with the other channel. This would prevent beat cancelation and suck out. Instead, there is no effect when you're in the middle. Very stupid. That's pretty much it. If Numark had solved these basic problems this would be about as good a digital mixer as you could get. Right now it's overall a step up from the gray-sounding Matrix 2 it replaced, but still has its flaws.

What so you think that having a crossfader curve, phase effect and a headphone jack are bad points lol! Have you even got one of these mixers.

The headphone jack does not sound as good as Rane, Allen and Heath, or Stanton mixers. It doesn't even sound as good as the Matrix 2/3 or the CM200 from Numark. The phase effect has no effect when the crossfader is in the middle, which is worthless when mixing...though Numark tends to be more and more geared for scratch DJs nowadays. This scratch emphasis in their designs can also be seen in the crossfader curve, which is a scratch artist curve rather than one using a standard curved-X type curve that would be used by mix DJs...i.e. one that does not have both channels maxed out when in the center. The crossfader was an invention created with a dip in the center so that the sum of two signals' volumes would be the same as each channel individually when the fader is closed on only one end. This allows gradual, seamless transitions with a constant volume. The only Numark mixer that has such a proper crossfader curve available is the PPD9000. Yes, I've owned a PPD01 for several years. Looking at your comment I would have to assume you did not even read the entire review I wrote. Shame on you.
