Good Points

Staff are friendly


Bad Points

Wait for over 45 minutes on the phone to be answered; excess charges; unable to transfer mortgage to joint names; unable to make direct debt payments from wife's account; staff are incompetent; they never phone back or reply to letters but are all too quick to advise of mortgage rate increases.


General Comments

My mortgage was arranged through a broker who recommended IF. They seemed to offer a good deal with offset mortgage. A year down the line, I got married and wanted to change to a joint mortgage. They said we couldn't change to a joint morttgage, we would have to reapply, but they could only offer £35,000 LESS than I already had because of a "change in their lending requirements" despite now having joint earnings far in excess of that originally required. No, we couldn't make direct debt payments from my wife's account or link her account to the offset system without applying afresh which would mean re-applying, new legal fees etc.
Wrote several complaint letters, eventually got a standard reply over 3 months later, wrote to the Chairman of Halifax, the holding company, never got a reply. What a bunch of incompetent idiots. A total rip-off. Don't touch them with a barge-pole. Every time I phone them it takes an average of 30 minutes to get through to an "advisor", then another 20 minutes to get anything like a sensible answer. See other contibutors comments on this matter. Can't wait to transfer my mortgage elsewhere.
