Had the best rate which at a cost you could hold until you found a property.
Once we found a property and tried to get a mortgage the level of service dropped from good to terrible. They never answered their phones, never returned calls and not once updated us (via phone or letter) on the status of our application. It has been over a month I am yet to receive a letter from them even though I have sent faxes/ left voice messages almost everyday (so much for the 21 days).
I was very disappointed with the level of service I received from the
Nationwide Building Society. Dealing with the Sales and Services department was a truly painful experience. They gave us the wrong or very sketchy information when we did managed to talk to somebody. After 4 weeks of running around after our application we were turned down for the mortgage without an explanation. When I tried to make a formal complaint I was told they will forward my complaint back to the person doing my application in the first place! When I insisted that my complaint went to their manager, I received one phone call which I missed, I left three more messages and was then told the manager had gone home !!
My advice is to avoid this lender and never bother to get a structural report as it is a waste of your money. They have made the experience of buying our first property a very stressful and upsetting one.
