General Comments

Oasis, Definitely Maybe - This is the album that dragged British music out of its post-grunge doldrums. It is an album with loud guitars and, crucially, melodies. It is the perfect album for all of us dreaming of a better life, best summed up by the opening track. In my mind, the best debut since the Stone Roses' first album.

Actually, if you want to be really pedantic, Suede's debut was the album that dragged Britain out of the post-grunge doldrums, sparking Britpop and helping Oasis to make the jump into the mainstream - two years later. Definitely Maybe is a fantastic album, I do agree, and it's a shame that they haven't been able to maintain this high standard since.

Love the Suede album (in fact, I really like them all, even 'Coming Up'), but I meant that this is the album that made the majority of people want to listen to British music again.
