Prince, Lovesexy - Summer 1988. There was only one true artist in pop. Madonna? Michael Jackson? No. PRINCE. He'd already been there and done it, sold 15 million copies of Purple Rain and let the non-believers know that he was beyond compare. Then what did he do? He did what Miles, Coltrane, Parker, etc., did. He moved the goal posts and challenged us. If you want funk you've got Alphabet St. If you want pop you've got Glam Slam. If you want spirituality you've got Anastasia. It's all there, but not quite as you expected it. 'Q' may say for fans only. Stuff 'Q'! This is a man in a zone that most people, most musicians even, would not dare to dream of. Creativity unleashed and unfettered. Along with 'The Rainbow Children,' this is probably the best album Prince has recorded (released )....yet!
