General Comments

I've owned a few air rifles over the past 20 years including a Webley Stingray, a Beeman R7,an HW77,and an FWB 124D.The R9 was bought as a replacement for my 20 plus year old FWB 124,which was stolen. A tough task, replace a classic, and my favourite rifle. Out of the box the rifle was a little rough, the first few shots dieseled, and the firing cycle had a pretty good twang. But after 1000 or so shots things started looking up, the firing cycle smoothed out and some of the twang went away, and I got the proper hold for this rifle down. This rifle is a little hold sensitive. I found placing my off hand just ahead of the trigger guard to be perfect. So after learning the proper hold and adjusting the excellent Rekord trigger the rifle turned into a real shooter, one jagged hole at 20 yards with either Beeman Trophy's or Crossman Premiers are a given. This rifle also shoots extremely well offhand. At this point I really liked this rifle; I honestly thought it was worth every penny. But wait, the real magic happened when I sent it to Bestunes for a tune. Now it's like a whole different beast. The velocity is up, an honest 960 FPS on the chrony, the trigger has been tweaked to near match grade, it cocks smoother, and the firing cycle seems faster, with no twang. Along with all this, the rifle is now an absolute tack driver, and pleasant to shoot. The recoil is sharp but not to the point of hurting accuracy. Mine has the deluxe stock, which lines me perfect to the Bushnell Trophy 4X12X40 scope. This is now my favourite rifle, it may not be the best at any one thing, but it does do just about everything very well. Admittedly this is not the greatest air rifle in the world, but it is the one I reach for the most. This gun does need a little time to show what it can do; it improves with every shot taken. And to fully realize the potential this rifle has, a professional tune and trigger job is a must.
