Greatly improved web slinging.
Better animation although the graphics on the Xbox version are better than the PS2.
Seems to be a bit short.
Having heard good things about Spider-Man The Movie 2 on the Internet and from friends I decided to take the plunge and buy it myself and I'm pleased to say I wasn't disappointed.
The original Spiderman the Movie game was good, but this is 10 times better. In the original you couldn't walk around on the ground, in fact if you went too low you automatically died, but in the sequel it is completely different. Spiderman takes up a very different approach adopting a more 'grand theft auto' style of play that allows you to walk the streets and interact with pedestrians and cars as well as flying through the air with the use of your spidey powers. While you're swinging around the city, pedestrians shout up at you, sometimes just saying hello, but other times asking for assistance. This is where you have the opportunity to earn hero points that you can use to purchase swing or fighting upgrades from the superhero shops dotted around the city. The mini-missions that pedestrians will offer you include taking an injured worker to hospital as quickly as possible, rescuing people off a sinking ship and even saving a little girl's balloon that she dropped by accident.
New York looks amazing and as far as I can tell is accurately represented (although I'm from sunny Manchester in the UK so I can't be certain!) The web slinging is much better with you having to now actually attach yourself to buildings, lampposts and even trees instead of just being able to swing through 'nothingness' with your web stuck to thin air as in the last game. Spiderman 2 roughly follows the plot of the movie (MJ, Doc Ock, etc.) but also has extra battles with bad guys that fans of the comics will recognise and other odd jobs in the style of GTA including photography assignments and pizza delivery missions.
I'm not completely impressed with the length of the game, I've been playing it for about an hour and am 20% of the way through it; but once you have finished the missions there are other things to be getting along with. Again being influenced by (or copying) GTA there are tokens hidden throughout the games that you can collect which I'm sure will unlock some new feature of the game if you get them all. There are also 'races' spread throughout the map where you have to follow a set course and get the fastest time you can to get more points. If you aren't bothered by these extras or can't afford the £30 price tag you could probably get away with renting it and with a bit of work you should have the main missions done within a weekend.
I was very impressed with Spiderman the Movie 2 for what it was...a fun game to play, it's not an incredible gaming masterpiece but it is very enjoyable and is definitely the best superhero game yet.
