Walking round my local wine merchant on the prowl for anything interesting, Charles Wells Banana Bread Beer jumped out at me. Banana Bread Beer..surely just a name...it can't be made with bananas?? Well it is, and very well it is too.
I've had fruit beers in the past and they've been very hit and miss, with a lot more miss. Most have the impression of being beer/lager with a chemical fruit flavour squirted in at the end.
Banana Bread Beer is having none of this though, it tastes like a proper beer but with bananas....sound mad but it works, and fair trade bananas they are too (which even gives you that slight glowing feeling you get when you give to charity or do something right ;)). I'm not even a big Bitter lover but this tastes like a quality Bitter with a sweet banana taste to offset the bitterness.
I'm hooked and can't get enought of it now! It's an extremely easy drinking beer with a 'just-right' taste of bananas....not too sweet, not too unrecognisably banana!
