General Comments

Alton Towers is a fantastic day out for those who are adrenaline junkies or small children. I visit the park yearly, usually before the holidays start to avoid long queues. They also offer great deals when off-peak, if you view their site. For example, when I last visited I got in for just £10!
During off-peak times the queues for some of their best rides such as Air, Oblivion (1st vertical drop rollercoaster) and Nemesis are reasonable at around 30mins tops. They offer attractions for all ages with X-Sector and Forbidden valley been aimed at teens and adults, and those who love rides. Ug land and Cred street are aimed more at smaller children. The food is reasonably priced, and getting around the park is pretty easy with wooden signs pointing to the different areas of the park, and maps available at entry. I'd recommend eating early or late to avoid queues if going on a peak day, but you really don't need to worry about that if going during school days! And with their new hotel been opened recently, it makes a great few days out for the family.
