sunnibeami's Review of Wilkinson
15th Jul 2004
Overall Rating
- Value for money

- Quality of service

- Goods purchased & costgardening items £3.00
- Layout of shop

If you are on a low budget go here.
Bad Points
Some cheap items but some a lot of rubbish items.
Not really value for money. Bad layout of shop, staff not very friendly.
General Comments
I have been to a few Wilkinson shops up and down the country and have found them to be the same, mostly rubbish items. The layout of shops is terrible, no accomodation for disabled people or wheelchairs. Staff unfriendly and some quite rude.
People on a low budget might find it useful, but the items look cheap as well as being cheap.

This is the reason why the staff are grumpy. As an employee you're expected to be there to start work 5 minutes before your shift and often not leave until 10 minutes after you should have finished without any extra pay! You're monitored on how long it takes you to serve each customer. If you put the delivery out you're given a time that they expect you to complete it in. They also have a staffing policy of only having a few full time staff and the rest part timers. They say that they have greater flexibility with staff should anyone become ill. The real reason is that they don't want to pay National Insurance contributions. It is cheaper for them to employ two people each with a 15 hour contract than it is to employ one person on a 30 hour contract.
