Good Points

Very friendly reception, bar and waiting on staff. Only 50 metres to the beach. Nice swimming pool with plentiful sunbeds and parasols. Reception area exceptionally clean. Reasonably priced holiday. Two weeks half board.

Bad Points

Far too many children staying in the hotel. The food was just of an average standard. Breakfast consisted of bread, goats cheese, boiled egg, salami and olives. The tea was horrible and the coffee was far too strong. Although there was plenty of sunbeds the British families took it upon themselves to reserve them with their towels at 8am in the morning! A Turkish family decided to remove the towels and received verbal abuse from the British family.

General Comments

Hotel Class - I originally booked this holiday for peace and quiet? If that is what you are looking for do not go to Altinkum in July. I made the mistake of booking in the school holiday period. I have been informed it is better to go there in September or early October when it is slightly quieter and with fewer children. The hotel was graded in a 3 star category; however I would say that rating is a little too high. I would grade it 2 star. The food that was served appeared to be of a basic standard, especially breakfast, and the three course evening meal was just average. The hotel room was basic but clean, however the mattresses on the bed were far too hard. There is a small TV area next to reception with a small lounge if you wish to relax in the evening. Outside is a pool bar with a few seats and tables. There is also a courtyard at the back of the hotel where you can sit and have a drink and bar snack. The prices of drinks and snacks are very reasonable. A large beer will cost you 90p, a soft drink 60p and large water 30p. A chicken sandwich with fries and salad is around £1.20. The bar staff are extremely friendly and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and they are very attentive.

In the hotel room I required air conditioning which cost £40 for two weeks. A safety deposit box cost £10 for two weeks.

Altinkum - Not for those seeking peace and quiet. It is more suited to those who are looking for sun, sea and sand with plentiful activities. Beaches are nice but get very crowded, get there early if you can. The hassle to try and get you into the bar and restaurants is horrendous and annoying, it became so bad that I reserved myself to staying in the hotel. They will not take no for an answer. If you go to one of the menu boards outside a restaurant they will come across to you without any hesitation and do their best to coax you in. I like to make my own choice rather than be pressurised. Be careful where you choose, a large beer will cost you anything from 60p to £1.50 and a three course meal from £3.49 up to £7.50 just for one course.
