Good rates
They charge you for everything.
Not very helpful.
Won't contact you.
Telephone support is very poor.
We managed to get a mortgage with IF Intelligent Finance about 6 months ago. Last month we decided to get a fixed rate with Northern Rock, as it was cheaper. NR redeemed the mortgage with I.F. on the 8th June, however we'd already had June's payment come out on the 1st, about £450. A week later we also had to pay the 1st mortgage payment with NR for another £450.
So we phoned I.F. and asked if we were due a reimbursement for the extra paid. I was told we would get about £250 back but they couldn't be sure exactly until the account was closed, as there were fees involved, and this would take several days. So after a week I phoned them again to see what was happening and the guy I spoke to said it didn't look as if it had been submitted yet. When asked how long it would take, he said he wouldn't like to put a time frame on it.
At this point I wrote a letter of complaint to them, as we'd paid 2 mortgage payments in the space of a month, and cash was running a little low.
Another week went by and I still had heard nothing so I phoned again, and was told the account was in the process of being closed, and I would be contacted again soon.
A week later we received 2 letters, one acknowledging the letter of complaint and another with a statement saying we were in credit £248.51, great I though, that's what we'll be due back, wrong!
Another week went past and I'd heard nothing, no phone calls, and no cheque. So I phoned again, this time I was told the account was closed, but we were due nothing back. From the £248.51 they said £108.51 was for the one week we were with them at the begging of June, and the other £140 was a fee for closing the account!
Amazing that the fee for closing the account was the same as the redemption we were due back!
However by my calculations even this is wrong.
We paid £451.07 on the 1st June; we should only have been charged 1 week, that's £108.51, then the £140 fee for closing the account we should still be due £202.56. I still can't get an answer from them as to what happened to this money!
