Island just across from hotel, walk around the far side and its all your own! Friendly friendly friendly people, very helpful very safe environment
Bad Points
Dont go to the meat market... just never ever go to the meat market! They are very proud of it but just never go to the meat market...
General Comments
Gambia rates in my worldly eyes as one of the if not the top location anyone not looking for a Spanish chips and egg holiday should go to. The people are one of the friendliest and most honest I have ever met, for instance I left a camera and my wallet on the table (as all daft sods do) and went for a swim in the sea for a good couple of hours with my wife. Upon my return it was still there, a local pointed out that the only real trade of the country is Tourism and they are desperate to try and attract it. And as such they protect all tourists as much as possible.
They are a poor nation but always willing to help and always smiling there wasn't a single instance during my stay that I felt threatened or annoyed at any of the traders I met.
In order to enjoy it there spend a good couple of weeks at least; book a good hotel and a guide and then just travel. Just don't expect to go anywhere quickly every person you meet will ask you "hello how are you" and they genuinely are interested... a single mile could take a week!
