Good Points

very acurate at 20 to 30 yards. Beautiful wood finish. Reasonably priced when purchased with the BSA scope.

Bad Points

Impossible to sling mount. Scope rings should be replaced with 1 piece scope mount. May be a bit heavy/off balance for a beginner or person used to lighter units.

General Comments

The first time I pulled the trigger on the Gamo Hunter 890, I fell in love with this rifle. Very accurate at 20 to 30 yards (RWS super point Meister Kulgen pellets). From bullseyes to berries on tree branches, this rifle is one of the best. It took some time for me to get used to the 2 stage trigger preventing myself from impatiently snatching the trigger and forcing the shot which led to a missed target at 3" to the right. I had been a Crosman fan since childhood and after receiving the Gamo as a Chrismas gift from my wife last year, I haven't been able to put it down. I do recommend you replace the scope rings with the RWS 1 piece scope mount. After doing so I noticed this lowered the profile of the scope a bit but significantly improved my ability to sight in and fine tune for better accuracy (especially when zooming). In conclusion I feel the Gamo Hunter 890s is a Super Rifle at an affordable price of under $300 with a Fine scope. Some slight modifications should be made for the scope, but after that you'll be ready to hunt in no time.

For those who don't know it, it would help if you could describe what a "two stage trigger" means.
    Thanks

Where can I get that 1 piece scope mount?

  • OSUfan on 1st Sep 2003

Was the ring change because it was inaccurate or because of scope slippage. I've noticed on mine the scope and the steel block pop off the reciever about every 15 shots. That forces my to loosen the scope, put it back in place, mount it back on the reciever, then resight the gun in again. Any other suggestions?

No the 890 does not have the ( spring Twang ) that most springers have, at least mine doesn't.

I found this review helpful because the reviewer advised on a better scope mount to use with the rifle.
