General Comments

I have owned two Toyota MR2's, one in 1990 from new, one in 1998 used, in between cars I bought a house. The first car was reliable and totally dependable, after this I vowed to buy another as soon as possible. My second car had 4 previous onwers! I've had a couple of maintenance bills with it, but I think this was more to do with the standard of the Franchise garage servicing.
Second hand ones are more risky to buy than new.
For a 2 seater sports they are however cheap to run. Insurance for me is low, circa £400, fuel consumption 35 mpg, 40mpg on long journeys. You can also get additional discounts from the MR2 drivers club. Tyres can be expensive, but you can take your pick, just watch the speed rating, mine are about £70 for fronts, maybe £80-£100 for rears.
The handling is more fun than the speed, I would note though, if you drive like Michael Schumacher, you will have Michael Schumacher's maintenance bill.
