General Comments

Kuredu Island Resort - We holidayed here from 7th-21st June 04. We were in a water villa in the Sangu end of the resort where guests can use the extra bar and restaurant on an all inclusive basis - they can also use all of the restaurants and bar A/I in the main resort. Drinks in the Al a Carte restaurants 'Thai' 'Grill' and 'Italian' are also included on the all inclusive. The cost of a two course meal in these restaurants are approx $35-55 for two people.

Accomodation on the island varies in standard with the best and most expensive being the water villas, the least expensive being the beach bungalows. The water villa and Jacuzzi beach villa guests can use the 'Sangu' facilities which offer a slightly better choice of food in the main restaurant where guests can sit where they want (never have to share) and can also choose to sit outside on the deck area (which overlooks the beach/ocean) for dinner. The bar here also has outdoor seating on a deck area on the beach. The guests at the Sangu end also have the use of a taxi to get round the island (not really needed) and later check out times for seaplane transfers.

The water villas have the only indoor bathrooms on the island with a lovely walk-in shower, four poster beds, CD player, mini bar (expensive prices) and safe. They have a double deck area with steps into the sea, comfy sunbeds and table and chairs.

When we arrived at the resort we were given advice by the guest relations on tipping and were told that the norm for good service was $10 per week for the room boy and $15 per week for the waiter. Bar staff were tipped when guests felt it appropriate. (We tipped bar staff around $50 between them over the course of the holiday as the service was great).

We found the food on the island to be very good with many choices in the buffet - there were a few spicy dishes each mealtime, at least two veggie dishes, always two pasta dishes and at least four meat dishes always accompanied by a good choice of fresh vegetables. The chefs always cooked at least three choices at the grill. There was also a plentiful salad buffet. We only went to two of the A la carte (Thai and Italian) and both were of a very high standard.

For mosquito bites we used 'Jungle formula' which worked well and although we got a few bites walking around the island at night we had no problems with any kind of pest in the accomodation at all.

The cost of our holiday was £3400 for two which included scheduled flights with 'Emirates' via Dubai, sea plane transfers and two nights in the Rydges Plaza Dubai on the way home with transfers to and from the airport. We booked last July with Travel choice (now First Choice) from the Hayes and Jarvis brochure.

To sum up, all I can really say is that this is a great place for a holiday I would go back tomorrow if I could.

We are going to this resort on our honeymoon in June next year and were wondering how the weather was during your stay?

  • Mary1967 Rank: Sergeant on 7th Aug 2004

    Hi Janey,

The weather was brilliant during our two weeks. It rained during the nights quite a lot and once or twice during the day in short bursts but dried up almost immediately. The resort staff said June is a nice time to visit as it's not as rainy as July and not too uncomfortable heat wise. I found it perfect.

    Cheers, Mary

We are honeymooning at Kuredu next June (05) between the 12th - 27th and we cant wait although I am slightly concerned about the weather, as every book/website says its the wettest month. Glad to see you had no problems, it can rain as much as it likes during the night!! lol... Can anyone else set my mind at ease? Am I worrying about nothing?

  • Creg on 12th Sep 2004

I went to Kuredu this June and we had a couple of showers during the day, but you don't mind in that heat!
On our last day the breeze dropped and it did feel very hot.
We stayed in beach bungalows which although basic, were very clean and I would stay in one again.
We had a boat transfer which was almost 5 hours, After a long flight you really don't need that and on the return we were at the airport 7 hours before our departure so if you can get the seaplane!

  • elliskevin on 11th Oct 2004

Thanks for the feedback.. We were warned about the boat trip so we have already booked the seaplane!! But thanks for confirming the reports.
We are in the Sangu Water Villas? Did you get to see what they were like?
As for the weather I totally agree a nice short downpour would be welcome, just keep my fingers crossed that short is all they are!!

    Thanks again.. we cant wait.

My partner and I are going on honeymoon to kuredu island in august 05 and staying in the water villas, can anyone tell us if they are as beautiful as they look and also we have heard there can be some rats on the island is this true.

  • Mary1967 Rank: Sergeant on 4th Mar 2005

    Hello Kerry,
The watervillas are fantastic. I didn't see any rats whilst I was there but on a tropical island I would assume there are rats and other such creatures, they won't get into your lovely watervilla though.

Has anyone been to the island in August? How was the weather? Thinking of the Maldives for our honeymoon; however August seems to be a climate-challenged month for many places!
    Thanks

we are thinking of booking the kuredu resort in August 05. Following a bad experience with food, drink and enertainment on an all inclusive basis in cancun, we are looking for reassurance. Thanks, Laura.

  • Mary1967 Rank: Sergeant on 12th May 2005

Hello Laura, Don't worry about the food there is plenty of choice in the AI. Not sure what you're looking for in terms of entertainment but don't expect anything like Cancun. You really need to make your own entertainment here as it's very low key, the highlight of the week being the crab racing - seriously! Even if you are party animals you couldn't fail to love this place. Have a great time.

Is there any way you can upgrade possibly to a beach villa/jacuzzi villa when you get there-do they give you the option has anyone done this?If yes how much roughley would it cost? Would really appreciate any info from anyone thats reading! Karen & Steve

Hi I'm thinking of going to this island between the middle of October and the beginning of November (we've not booked yet). Does anyone have any experience of the weather at this time of year?

  • carolcarroll Rank: Lance Corporal on 27th Mar 2006

Whats the weather like in mid july and are the beach bungalows as bad as a lot of the reviews that I have read.
