Sturdy as hell. Wide variety of used lenses available everywhere.
Light meter tells you which f-stop to use rather than which shutter speed and it isn't illuminated.
I love my AE-1. However, I learned on a Pentax P30t which has a light meter that suggests shutter speeds, unlike the AE-1, which suggests f-stops. I still think photography is quicker when you can choose a motion-stopping shutter speed and move the aperture ring around until your meter says 1/250 is OK. The AE-1 took a little getting used to for me. I had to remember what f-stop I was on and get a feeling for how far I had to move it so that I wouldn't have to take my eye away from the viewfinder to check my settings.
