128 Bit no less, so powerful. The console itself is cheap to buy secondhand (£25 ish). Games cheap too (mostly £5 - £25 secondhand and new). Some excellent and original games. Easy to play import games via DC-X disc. Four controller ports (it's the norm now mind!). Inbuilt modem allowing internet access (only 56K though so sloooow!) Big catalogue of games and a wide range too and I heard recently that they are actually STILL making brand new games for it in Japan!
Bad Points
My console had overheating problems in the long term after about a year or so due to poor cooling system. Can no longer buy games new now and they can be hard to find in the high street games shops with independent game shops and the internet (eBay, cex.co.uk, etc) as your best bet. The controller is a bit chunky I suppose. No reset button on console. Oh and no decent football game! Er... I think that's it!
General Comments
Sega Dreamcast - Sega's last console they ever made. Some top, original and exclusive games including Power Stone 1+2, Seaman (with microphone!), Chu Chu Rocket, Ferrari F355 and Samba de Amigo (with Maracas!!!) However, most of the best games are better known for appearing on the XBOX, Gamecube and PS2 as either conversions or sequels. Crazi Taxi, Shenmue 1/2, Metropolis Street Racer (XBOX updates were called Project Gotham Racing), Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur and Phantasy Star Online all debuted for the Dreamcast. There are some very exciting import games available too from the far east especially although they are mainly of the shoot-em-up variety (Ikaruga, Border Down, etc.) and can be expensive (as much as £50!) but definitely worth checking out. My Dreamcast began to overheat and crash about 6 months after I bought it new but I just simply placed the cooling fan on the outside so it was blowing cool air IN rather than attempting to suck cold air OUT! I've had no problems since I might add. In summary, go get a cheap Dreamcast and some games and enjoy!
