General Comments

I have stopped buying Air Gunner magazine now. I am fed up with reading how great everything is. I'm sure the airgunning public would rather have honest reviews of products rather than read pretty much the same thing every month.
If you read the magazine, tell me, have you ever read a line that says "this realy is a poorly made nasty airgun, don't buy it"?.
I didn't think so.
But this is true for a minority of guns that the mag reviews, but they don't like to say.
I also don't like the steep charge ( 2 quid ) of entering competitions. They must make a killing with theese charges.

That is a spot on statement. I find it hard enough to get an accurate and trustworthy rifle review as it is without airgunner magazine dressing everything up. I have been shooting air rifles for 8 years and with so much choice on the market it's hard to decide on which rifle combo to pick. Life would be a lot simpler if some hardware was scrutinised and some products compared with each other such as: bsa hornet vs air arms s400
air arms tx200 vs weihrauch hw97
or logun mk2 vs theoben rapid.

I agree that Air Gunner rarely faults the guns it reviews, but if it was a lot more critical then people would be critisising the fact that it had nothing good to say about weapons featured. You must remember that the people reviewing these so-called 'best buys' are professionals and are on quite a bit of money, so, for example, £600 for a gun will not matter to them if it is rubbish, at the end of the day they will just compare performance to the price rather than what it's like. Not all of us have the luxury of just being air gunners, most of us will have to live other lives and have to find time to get the best guns so we can enjoy our maybe little shooting time so I can see your point there. Also, I know £2 seems steep, but I am sure you wouldn't be complaining if you actually won the average kit of the gun, scope, mounts, pellets and lube normally worth between £500-900 in each issue. Admittedly the competitions are extremely easy so you won't stand much chance of being 'pulled out of the hat' compared to the other million or so entries but also remember that if you join BASA you can enter free using one of the tokens supplied. Overall, the mag features a large variety of good and bad guns. I hope I have restored a few people's faith in the magazine and I for one will continue to read it.

Is there some magazine that can write an unbiased review of an air rifle or new product without boot-licking the manufacturers?
I would sooner pay double the going rate for a magazine that tells you how it is.

Thanks Lew...Have just read some of their online reviews and you seem to have hit the nail on the head.
Would like to find a better source that critically reviews air guns.

    Ballistics, 25, 50 and 75 (yard/meter) groupings, energy/footpounds delivered, and any other
tech. info that could be had... Some magazines are more along the lines of a "Consumer Reports"

If anyone out there as the answer to this .....Drop me a line

I agree.I stopped reading Airgunner and now read Airgun world and it is just the same as the reviews of airguns in the airgunner mag , very biased .I have never seen a reviewer say they would not buy a particular gun!....The best read i have found for anyone looking for an airgun is 'What Airgun?' the Essential buyers guide.

An air gunner (AG) is a member of an air force aircrew who operates flexible-mount or turret-mounted machine guns or autocannons in an aircraft. Modern aircraft weapons are usually operated automatically without the need for a dedicated air gunner, but bombers used to carry up to eight air gunners.
