Sony KV-32FQ75S Review

I bought my Sony KV32FQ75(S) TV from Jessops (John Lewis) in Nottingham for £999 (inc. 5 year warranty) as our first move to widescreen.
Didn't read these reviews until after purchase so I was delighted to find I had got the "U" model instead of the "S" I was expecting.
No problem with scrolling bands but left-most 3 inches of screen was badly out of focus. Expecting to have to accept a replacement machine I started the after-sales process - taking today off to wait for the engineer. To my amazement he walked in, took one look, whipped the back off and tweaked the focus until I said I was happy! The focus is not 20-20 right to the edges of the screen and as he tweaked the single control the left side got pin-sharp as the right side started to go blurry. Eventually we found the sweet spot where only the outside edges of full-screen teletext starts to blur. True flat screens are apparently prone to these compromise adjustments when it comes to focus.
So the message here is that the KV32FQ75(U) can be as good as the magazine reviews claimed. I don't know the difference between the "U" and the "S" but the same tweak may be possible (but only by a qualified tweaker!).
I take my hat off to the Jessops after-sales service. Can you remember the last time an engineer actually took the lid off and fixed something without sucking air and trying to replace the whole unit? I was impressed with that and now I am really impressed with the KV32FQ75 all over again. A great telly.
