Ford Expedition XL Review

Nice ride, decent economy, great traction, for its size and motor (4.6) excellent acceleration. Great family vehicle. I would rate it a 12 out of 10.

Well after 7 years and 80,00 miles I am still excited about turning the key in my Ford Expedition every morning. I have gotten 20.3 mpg on a trip from fairfax, va. To virginia beach, but it normally does 18+, it seems to like 80 mph (smile). I have used synthetic oil since 12,000 miles and change it every 6k. The leather seats still look nice and are a joy because their not cold in the winter and not hot in the summer. My first set of tires were replaced at 58,000 miles (they still had hi-way tread, but not sufficent snow tread left on them). I have spent $430 on it besides normal upkeep, and would buy another if Ford hadn't of wimped out the suspension. Turning radius is sweet, and its highway response is nice (remember to keep your air pressure in the tires at the recommended pressures). The front and rear a/c work very well, and heaters will keep you toasty. I recommend the towing package its a few dollars well spent. My 82 year old mother enters and exits without a problem. My family finds it roomy and comfortable on long trips. The premium sound / cd changer is a must, with all the interior room it sounds nice. it has never been garaged, but still shines nicely. I guess you can tell I like itI have owned, my 1982 f-150 is still seen around fairfax, va. when my expedition reaches 19 years I will rate it #1.

  Sorry, you're not getting 20.3 mpg. More like 18, even at highway speeds. And yeah, the 42 ft turning circle is pretty sweet... if you're in a half empty parking lot or out in the middle of nowhere. I can think of PLENTY of better family vehicles that are safer AND more economical. Safety and economy should be the first things a person thinks of when buying a vehicle for his/her family. They're only safer to an extent, frontal crashes aren't as common as you think. If you do the research, many wrecks involve running off the road into a ditch, hitting a tree, or broadsides. I've seen a GMC Yukon tipped on it's side by a Mercury Sable, which was delivering pizza. The little girl in the Yukon had her leg amputated because it was so badly damaged when it got caught under the vehicle when the window busted out. Yep, they're safe. I think of safety before I think about how few mpg it gets. And big deal if it has room, you probably don't need it and you'll probably never use it. Hardly anybody who owns a gas-guzzling SUV needs all that room. They just like knowing it's there... I don't get why having so much room is so important that you have to insist on destroying the ozone layer just to have it. You're selfish and ignorant, and you should have learned that by now.
