Good Points

Beautiful workmanship, POWREFUL, Accurate! Smooth! No twang, Did I already say POWERFUL? Very Reasonable Price for this product. Lifetime Warranty

Bad Points

A couple of very tiny scratches on barrel. Gamo does not get the respect they deserve.

General Comments

I just bought the gun this afternoon so I know these impressions are very early, but this is the second Gamo I have purchased. The stock and metal work are done beautifully. Everything fits well. I brought it home, cleaned out the barrel mounted the scope and went to my range to sight it in. I was shooting one hole groups of 3 after about 12 adjustment shots. This gun does not have the typical "Twang" associated with many springers. The recoil is amazingly tame. And it is still so powerful that it will go clear through a 1x piece of pine from point blank and bust through the back from 10 yards. It is much smoother and powerful than the RWS 34 I was looking at. The only thing that really frustrates me is the snobbery against Gamo in the airgun community. I don't get it. These guns are great and they are reasonably priced. If they are so bad why is it that the most popular Chinese springer out there (b18/19) is a copy of the Gamo 440? The Chinese do not clone junk! Think that through.
This is an awesome gun, I wish I would have bought it before I bought my shadow.

I have now shot about 600 pellets through my 890 and love it even more. It is so smooth! So accurate! So powerful! I have taken out a number of pests at up to 40 yrds so far, and they drop like a Rock. when I hit them with the 1000 Shadow, the .177 wound channel is so small, they don't always go down so positively. The trigger does need adjustment, BUT it is adjustable! I really love the wood stock too- beautiful! It is an awesome gun, I really recommend the .22 cal over the .177.

I now have over 1000 pellets through this gun and it is even sweeter than before. It will shoot groups off-hand at 3/4 inch at 37 yards! That is incredible. I have taken dozens of Starlings from my yard with this gun. I LOVE it! I am so grateful for it. I wasn't too sure about the scope (BSA 2-12x50) when I got it BUT, this scope is awesome! This is a perfect match for such an accurate gun. SOOOOOO much nicer than the RWS 34 that I tested before I bought this gun. Please DO NOT buy into the snobbery against GAMO, it is truly unexplainable. I am sold on Gamo. I have "defended" gamo on airgun forums where snobs trash them and discovered that airgun shooters from around the world respect Gamo! It seems the snobbery is confined to the USA. It cracks me up to read the complaints about the Trigger. Well…. It is adjustable. AND it is the very trigger that Theoben buys from Gamo and installs on their guns. Theoen are probably 4x the price of Gamo. If the Gamo triggers are so bad, WHY would they buy them from Gamo??????
If you want an AWESOM .22 cal or .177 guns, save some Bucks and get the Gamo 890 with the scope.

I have been seriuosly considering buying one of these. Do you still have to say such great things about it?

  • illinoisshooter Rank: Corporal on 17th Dec 2004

Have been looking onto getting one of these. I was very concerned about it because the .177 didn't have very good reviews. Have read all three of these and am back to wanting to buy one. Are you still happy with your .22? Any help would be appreciated I don't want to jip on price and regret it.

I still think the Gamo 890 is a fantastic gun. I'd buy another in an instant. I still shoot it a few times each week and my respect continues to grow for it.

  • mgoeringer Rank: Sergeant on 20th Dec 2004

I still love my Gamo. I recommend them VERY highly. I think you will love it. PLUS there is a new after market trigger made for it to turn this into an incredible rifle. I hope this helps

  • illinoisshooter Rank: Corporal on 26th Dec 2004

Couple more question for you. Where do you get the after market trigger? And what pellets are working best for you? What brands and types have you used?

  • mgoeringer Rank: Sergeant on 31st Dec 2004

You'll find the trigger mod here http://charliedatuna.com/MK1_trigger.htm Now, as for the best pellets... Beeman's Field Target Specials and Gamo's Hunter pellets. Remember my 890 hunter is in .22 cal. I tried Crosman Premiers and the Crosman pointed pellets from Wal-Mart in mine and they are so loose they nearly slide out of the barrel. My .177 cal Gamo shadow loves premiers and Crosman points. I hope this helps.

Charliedatuna is the most highly respected springer specialist in the U.S. The Crossman Premier's that came with my 890S .22 would literally slide out of the barrel and they would group all over the target. I found the best grouping with the Sheridan Diablo(it's a round nose). Of course, that was only after using the Beeman one piece steel scope mount with built in scope stop pin. After sighting in with the new scope mount, I have not had to resight. Shooting one hole groups at 20-30 yards, 1/2"-3/4" groups at 40 yards.

Where can you get (on line) the Beeman one piece steel scope mount with built in scope stop pin? And what exactly do you call it?

  • Wes Rice Rank: Corporal on 22nd Sep 2005

    winney,

You may check the Pyramid web site. Or just type in 'Beeman Scope Mount'
or 'Beeman Air Rifle' on your search engine. The price will be $50-60 U.S.
It's definitely worth the price. I purchased mine at a local sporting goods store.
