General Comments

Well, theoritically this Sony HAR LH500 could be a good cd player. At least, it was a good idea - but VERY poorly implemented.
Actually, the so-called protection schemes Sony implemented make the HAR-LH500 nearly useless.
Reading CDs? Nope. Most of the time, it will say "No Disc". It won't read 9 out of 10 CDs - won't read any CD with any sort of protection scheme - this means: won't read any CD you buy nowadays.
Reading MP3s? the user manual warns you: "some MOP3s won't be read". Point blank. No explanation at all. Just guess...
Importing MP3s? It will take AGES.
Converting to ATRAC? Sure. Takes ages, too.
Looking for an artist? It will have to re-sort every time - not only when you've turned the machine off, but every time you want to look for an artist. And it's very slow.
Long-term investment? Nope. Imagine you've transferred your whole music collection to the audio recorder. No way to get them back to your computer, or even transfer them to a newer machine... which means, when it becomes older and you're afraid it fails, there's nothing you can do. And remember: to fill the HD in will eat thousand hous of your time. Same player starts again...
To sum it up: just a rubbish useless machine.
I bought it because I needed a new CD player - so, why not add the HD feature? Big mestake: it won't even read most of my CDs - and I've got several thousand...
I'll get it back to the shop, and tell them how angry I am. Shame on you sony crooks.
