Good Points

Cool styling, detailed picture, well designed remote. Clean analogue pictures. Great value.

Bad Points

Black levels not the best available, some smearing on fast moving shots.

General Comments

I thought a lot before deciding on which LCD Television I should purchase. Seeing them all hooked up in a major national retailer only seemed to confirm to me that the picture quality was appalling for a relatively expensive bit of kit. I chose the JVC LT-17E31 as I wanted a small secondary set and because it looks so much nicer than nearly every other set on the market - unless you like your TVs silver and cheap looking. Automatic setup works well, and very quickly the TV is up and running - factory presets are way too high on colour balance and brightness and best avoided. A couple of days of tweaking later and I had a picture that is reasonably natural looking, although red colours are still a little overdone. The picture is very detailed and can look stunning from a DVD fed through the RGB scart. What was pleasantly surprising was the good old analogue picture - it is very clean and watchable. The TV has a good range of connections for its size and the remote is large and clearly laid out. Sound is inevitably limited by the size of the speakers, but it is clear and free from annoying buzzes or rattles. Finally, the JVC was probably the best value of all the sets, at under £500 I think its a bargain.
