Nice gun for the money! read my review
none
Just got my Beeman R-7 about a week ago in .177 caliber. Took it out of the box and for the price was very impressed with the quality as far as feel, looks, stock, weight, etc. I ordered this for my wife as she is 5' tall and about 95 lbs. I have a Weihrauch HW 97 K and is to heavy and hard for her to handle.
After vast research on the internet and here at this site the R-7 appeared to be a good choice for someone her size (only 18lbs to cock it and light weight) I like the .177 caliper for its hold power on the POA (point of aim) over the 20 or 22 calibers etc, although the 20 caliber is real close (read my review under the Weihrauch HW 97-K "Aim to Please" for comparison testing in 22 and .177 calibers)
I read here and other places, in several reviews, this gun was to light and some said it was "barrel heavy" (not a good balance) when I first took it out of the box and held it a point with the factory sites it was a little barrel heavy, I then took off, one screw, on the factory barrel front site and removed it along with most of the rear site (for scope mounting) it was very simple to do, then mounted a Simmons 6-18X40 Pro air scope on a BSA one piece scope mount. It then balanced perfect with a nice comfortable weight, feel and look!
I would imagine this gun with its scope rails was really designed with a scope in mind? But for the budget minded of course can be shot right out of the box, this is your off balance gun. Most of your higher dollar guns can only be scoped. I also read several reviews that mentioned "lack of power" I wouldn't buy a 700 fps gun to shoot rabbits, crows, etc at 50 yards any way ? This gun is plenty of power for Starlings at 25 yards etc.
I immediately had to compare it to my HW-97K @ $460.00 and 900 + fps vs. the R-7 @ $259.00 700 fps etc The Hw-97 K has fixed barrel with under lever cocking and the R-7 is of course a break barrel. After a quick site in with a modified easy hold bench rest and loading up with final match Kugeln Fur pellets 8.18 grains, I was very impressed! I could hold a nickel size target group of three, at 10, 15, 20, and out to 25 yards, with the same POA! WOW!
After 25 yards I started noticing a drop at 30 yards was about an 1" low and a little right, 35 yards was 2 " low etc. although you could hold over and still bulls eye it! But as almost all of our shooting is Starlings at 10 to 20 yards this gun is perfect! The only major difference with the 97K (as far as POA) it will hold its POA at 10 to 40yrds and pretty close at 50 yards.
In summary after I scoped this gun in ( with proper scope, mounts, pellets, and hold) my wife was hitting dime size bulls eyes at 20 yards. Not bad considering she's never shot a gun before!
You need to give very careful consideration for what you are going to primarily use your gun for. If you want a gun for 10 to 25 yards (can hold over on farther shots ok) with POA shooting for sparrows , Starlings, Rabbits? Buy it! Then DO your homework before cleaning it, buying your pellets, the right scope, mounts, etc! get it all right for the gun! I have an interesting paragraph on pellets on my Weichrauch HW-97 k review here on this site you might want to read it before you buy your pellets? good luck and keep ur nose to wind, have fun!
