General Comments
I bought the download version of the Norton Internet Security 2004 Pro approximately one month ago.
I found it to be a great concept and if developed further I believe it would be an excellent all round protection suite however, at this present moment in time it consumes too much of your systems resources, and the liveupdate does not always work. Firewall was not as configurable as certain other firewalls and so caused computer freeze problems when loading games.

The NIS will consume system resources when you consider what it's actually doing. The first hint I had was when I had an alert that something was transmitting my phone number when I was on eBay - after an age I realised that one of the eBay auction numbers had the last five digits of my phone number within it. The software is clearly examining each and every item going in and out of your machine - that's got to slow it down.
There has to be a balance between security and the effect on the computers performance. To have an Internet Security programme going full pelt and checking everything is going to slow your computer down. It would be like installing floodlights, alarm systems and an electric fence around your home and expecting your electricity bill to remain the same.
I had to use Windows System Restore and this corrupted NIS (an unresolved known fault according to Symantec) - one of the answers that I got from my online support ticket was that the software could have been corrupted by a virus and, if that proved to be the case, they no longer offer online support for virus removal. Basically, if the software failed and let a virus through, you were on your own.
