Fine, balanced handling, economical to run if not abused, well made and doesn't rust. Replacement parts are available quite cheaply now (via the Owners Club and Porsche UK)
Cramped rear seats (only suitable for children up to 12). Engine liable to severe water damage in floods due to unfortunate positioning of air intake (as I discovered - ££££!).
The Porsche 944 Coupe is a well made, long legged sports tourer that can seriously cover the ground. Even though the youngest model is now 10 years old, the large percentage of non-abused 944s just keep going. Galvanised bodyshell and bulletproof mechanicals give reliable, fast transport. They are cheap to buy as well (£3K to £15k), though major services at Official Porsche centres are pricey at £500+. Going to an Owners Club recognised independent can reduce service costs somewhat but a FPMDSH (full Porsche main dealer service history) preserves the value of the car, of course.
Heavy, solid cars, they take some physical work to drive (well) but are very satisfying to drive on winding roads. Summary: join the Porsche Club GB and buy a 944 (or even a Turbo - licence loser!); you won't regret it!
