lynneabrams's Review of Taking Lives (18)

4th May 2004

Overall Rating

2.5 stars
  • Where Did You See It?
    Cinema
  • Starring Actor/Actress
    Angelina Jolie/ Ethan Hawke
Good Points

Some good twists and Angelina Jolie is always watchable. Good supporting cast.

Bad Points

Supporting cast underused. No chemistry between the leads. Some laughable dialogue.

General Comments

The premise of Taking Lives is interesting - a killer who assumes the identity of his victims, and the film does keep you guessing for a while. The twist in the middle is nicely done but then once you know who it is it drags on a bit. The supporting cast including Keifer Sutherland, Jean-Hughes Anglade, and Oliver Matinez between them carry some hefty acting prowess which is not really put to good use. There is no chemistry to speak of between Jolie and Hawke, and the plot does become a little ridiculous - you stop caring. There are a couple of good fright moments and the chemistry between Jolie and the French actors is good.
