Good Points
recording VHS onto DVD/R/RW's
Bad Points
can only watch the DVD's on the recorder, not on any other DVD player, many types of "name brand" disks can not be read.
General Comments
I've owned one of these Sansui VRDVD4005 DVD Recorders for about 3 months and have recorded (tried to) many times with it. Sony DVD/R's can't be read, but JVC DVD/R's can, and Sony DVD/RW's can, but JVC DVD/RW's can't. The origional RW disk that came with it would not format after it's first use. The information was able to be erased off of it, but when placing the RW back into the tray, Error C302 comes up. Aside from that, anything that is recorded on this unit can not be played on any other DVD player or PC. Is there any type of software that can recognize the format, or a way to allow future created DVD/R disks to be read by other players?

Any DVD recorded on these units MUST be finalized before it can be read by other DVD units. As was stated by another reviewer, the manual is a MUST have as well. The remote is REQUIRED to access all but the simplest functions and this includes finalizing the disks.
