General Comments
The eponymous debut album by Detroit's Deadstring Brothers sets a new benchmark for quality songs and excellent musicianship. Being based in Detroit, the band has a harder edge than their more reflective contemporaries. In lead singer and songwriter Kurt Marschke, the band have a genuinely talented individual who draws on a wide variety of musical influencees - from the usual Gram Parsons through to the more mellifluous country sounds that the Stones dabbled with circa 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Exile on Main Street'. Plus, his band are a dynamic and unusually sympathetic bunch, with some fantastic keyboard and steel guitar contributions, and some nice vocal harmony work featured throughout. A genuine find and a consummately talented crew. Check 'em out.
