Good Points

Excellent food and service. Embarkation was OK but could be better. Disembarkation was very good. The gym was better than most. All of the crew were courteous and happy to help you. Most of the crew spoke multiple languages, maybe not well, but they tried their best which was OK most of the time. The time schedules were strictly adhered to and sometimes events started early. Lots of late-night activities.

Bad Points

Entertainment was mediocre. Shops on board ship were ok but not extensive. Bring everything you need. Wanted to play back pictures, but the PAL TV's would only display b&w stills. Only food that was lacking on some days was fresh fruit, canned and cooked fruit was plentiful though. Freeport was a new port on this trip, and they didn't have a whole lot of current and accurate info. Cabin had both 110/220v capabilities but had to ask the cabin steward about the 110 since instruction were not clear. Thought the toga night was overrated.

General Comments

Costa Cruises, Costa Mediterranea - This is my 6th cruise, first on Costa. I was on the 4/4/04 Western Caribbean cruise. Read a lot of marginal reviews but did not find them justified. Due to Easter break, lots of kids. European travelers were plentiful. Most ship info was translated into 6 languages which was time intensive. I think the key to having a good experience was to get into the European mode of living and to try and experience new and, yes, different things to do and eat. Don't expect what you get back home with fast food nor casual dining. The weather was great so mal de mer was never an issue. The wife and I enjoyed ourselves on the excursion, and wish there was more shopping time. Gratuities are automatically added to the bill, but we wanted to give more since the service was that good. there were two formal nights and all the rest of the nights were casual. Brought a suit and a tux, didn't need the suit. Brought plenty of sunscreen and used it; saw the results of those who didn't.
