Overall Rating
- Value for money

- Length of ownership3 weeks
- Practicality

- Year ManufacturedDec 2000
- Performance

- Reliability

Big boot 34-36mpg seems reliable, easy to polish inside - its all plastic.
Bad Points
massive lack of any kind of performance, handles like a tank, no acceleration sense, stopping could be better, limited rear visibility -lots of blind spots. Dont like horn on steering wheel. No just one wipe control - you have to start then stop wipers. Have to take hand of steering wheel to switch on lights. No automatic rear wipe when reverse selected. Not supplied with a tape player
General Comments
The Vauxhall Vectra 1.8LS is not a car for the enthusiast, slow clumsey unforgiving steering is hard work no performance for overtaking, press right foot down nothing happens, release accelerator pedal, car dosent slow! In all Ive only had it 700 miles and its the worst car I've ever owned or driven. OK for familys, lots of room quiet.

on 24th Jun 2004Oh Dear. Mine is now 40,600 miles. due 40,000 miles service in 3,000 miles, since it's been done at 11,000 22,000 & 33,000 every Oct. I phoned round a local dealer for a price of a service. Told I need new timing belt. I replied it's not 80,000 miles or 8 years old. Dealer says Vauxhall has brought it forward. I didn't believe them and phoned 3 other dealers to be told the same, cost about £190-205 + service about £160.
I checked the internet and found out that Vauxhall had designed the timing belt to be replaced every 80,000 miles or 8 years BUT they were so unreliable causing on average £1,500 worth of damage to the engine when they fail, that they should be changed every 40,000 miles or 4 years.
I only bought it because I was led to believe that it was reliable & cheep to run.

Update...the more I drive it the worse it gets. I had a tall and a short passenger-the head restraints dont adjust-joke or what? The reversing candles are as good as no good-a tip, use brake light/indicator/foglamp to aid if it is safe to do so. Dip/Beam switch is heavy clumsey and not user friendly, you have to pull for dip, thats OK but having to push it away from you for Full Beam is realy awkard-why not pull for dip & pull again for beam like proper cars?
Very heavy frount tyre wear according to my tyre gauge, I estmitate at current use, 15,000max for a set of front tyres, had then balanced & tracked Check pressures weekly & drive according to the system. How can they wear as fast with so little performance or handeling from the car?
The Owners Manual I got with the car is a joke-so many, see page...I'm up to page 42 of 236 and I've already read the whole book twice.
The wing mirrors are very tender, dont touch then!! I saw a child in a supermarket carpark just brush against one as his friend playfully pushed him and it just fell off.
The rear wiper stays up when not in use, why cant it stay down, out of view when not in use?
