When power works OK has lots of good features BUT...

Persistent power-off-power-on-for-no-reason problem means phone is unreliable for texts and calls


General Comments

I am delighted to find - by a random search at Google for my mobile phone - this review site ... and that other people are having the power-off-power-on-for-no-reason problem - I am not alone!

My Panasonic GD87 phone started doing this after about 9months, and I assumed it was the reception originally but when it persistently happened assumed it was the battery although that battery was a new replacement only approx. 2 months before the phone started failing.

So I phoned Orange who said it was probably the battery - though with all you having the same problem and letting them know too it clearly isn't and they shouldn't lie to us. I bought a new battery, which I thought had resolved the problem, but hasn't. N.B. that their battery retails at Orange and Panasonic at GBP£44.00, though I managed to buy it cheaper at a small high-street shop - not cheap to buy then, and a waste of money as ... it started randomly powering off and on again.

Now I know you are all having the same problem I will return it to Orange under its insurance guarantee, for repair. Why I didn't cross my mind that it might be a fault with the hardware, and must be something to do with the battery/reception, I do not know - as just because a unit has all the bits & pieces that the GD87 does, doesn't mean it is flawless - a fact I will have to remember.

I will also use this site in the future when looking to buy! Keep up the reviews!

    1. Can anyone say if they have been having the blacking-out problem and are NOT on Orange - according to messages posted on this review site, we all seem to be Orange users having this problem !?!? Is it therefore an Orange issue not just Panasonic's hardware?



    2. Can anyone say they have had the problem resolved after returning their phone for repair - we are with Orange and would like to get the phone repaired by Orange but not unless it will actually work better - i.e. stop blacking-out - as we have programmed the phone with all our contact details, lots of photos, settings etc. and these will be lost if sent in for repair.
