Performance, looks, low insurance.
Squeaky front brakes, bit sluggish at low revs.
I've just bought a W reg Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi after wanting one for a while now. I opted for a 3 door for the stiffer suspension and reduced body flex (the 5 door feels pretty wobbly, and slow).
It's a great car and the performance is better than most other cars in the class, 0-60 is booked at 10.5 sec but I think that's a bit conservative. It's at its best on motorways where the pick up is pretty amazing. Handling is incredible, it sticks to the road better than any car I've been in - sports seats would help here to stop you almost being flung off your seat!!!
I knew exactly what I wanted before I went looking: a metallic black three door SXi with spoiler. It looks really good and will do for a few years to come (the three doors are much more rare and sell better).
The front brakes do squeak a bit but I think that will get better with a bit more use - apart from that there is a small rattle which I think is either the handle by the coat hook in the back or the seat belt mechanism.
Get one - you won't regret it!
