General Comments

Why oh why do they do this!!!
What is the point in the LG Flatron Ez T710BH 17 inch Monitor having a flat outer face if the tube is a regular curved one??

Because of this, the glass is thicker at the edges and therefore it causes some parallax distortion. Plus it's really annoying, the black border becomes very prominent at the corners.

The curved outer screen equivalent would be a much better option, otherwise go for the 700P model.

At least LG don't market it as a true flat screen and clearly distinguish between these and the '100% flat' monitors.

Avoid these.

Here is an explanation as to why there are advantages of having a curved internal surface to the screen. Basically, it has to do with Snell's Law (light refraction). This is the phenomenon that results in fish not really being where they appear to be when viewed from a boat for example

LG do make "flat inside and out" screened monitors (Flatron, as opposed to Flatron EZ). Interestingly, monitors with flat internal surfaces have to paint straight lines bowed, to make them look straight on-screen.

You’re absolutely right. And also the other commenter who gives a good and sound technical reason as to why the screen is as it is. It's functioning perfectly.

However I think the main issue is that folks expect it to be pure flat when its not. It's a conventional CRT monitor dressed up to look like a pure 100% flat screen. Nothing wrong with that if that’s what you expected. In fact its a fine monitor.

As you say, for the 100% flat (inner and outer glass) go for the P700 or the discontinued model 775FT.
