General Comments

I've just got a pair of Mission M73i's from Richer Sounds in Swiss Cottage to replace a pair of Eltax DX50s Stereo Speakers that were the front pair of my surround setup (Sherwood RD6118R DTS, 5.1 etc, Eltax DX 50 centre and rear pair, Toshiba SD220e DVD).

Initially I flicked through the TV channels to see how they faired and I wasn't disappointed. Even poorer soundtracks on a nameless all day made-for-TV movie channel had an increased presence. The likes of MTV and other channels with better audio sound tighter all round. The DX50s did the job but these Mission's are head and shoulders above them. It will be interesting to see how they cope with Star Trek Voager later in surround.

I'm now running through Scritti Politti's 1988 album "Provision" (my standard test disc, I know it inside out!). Imagining is superb, all the finer points of production leap out at you, but in a controlled way (if you know the album and its history at all you'll know it was 3 years in the making, and overproduced to the extreme....there's a lot to listen to!). The bass has nice depth to it, and the top end is lively but not overpowering. Green Gartside's already silky smooth voice, which can get a bit lost on inferior speakers due to the way the album is mixed, cuts through almost as if he were sitting here with me singing along to a backing track! (if only he was!!)

Other people have commented on the lack of "running in" instruction on the paperwork; while this is true, straight out of the box they sound amazing. I'm sure I'll get to like these speakers even more once theyve settled down.

At work (I'm a professional sound engineer) I'm spoilt by studios equipped with Genelecs which cost obscene amounts and sound incredible, but the M73i's aren't far behind them which is pretty good going considering how little they cost by comparisson. If you want a reasonably priced pair of speakers that adapt well to all subject matter, these are a must buy, and at £120 at Richer Sounds right now you can't afford not to have them!!
