Ive had this Panasonic GD87 mobile phone for nearly a year now and have got totally fedup with it now - DO NOT BUY A PANASONIC PHONE !

The main reason I went for it was the good screen quality and camera, which I have to admit is still better than most other phones I've seen.

BUT.... there are quite a few stupid limitations and annoyancies with the phone, such as with text messages.

Though the fact my phone doesnt work properly is the biggest problem.

Over the past few months I have been getting this 'reboot' problem where after sending or receiveing a text or making or receiveing a call, the phone turns itself off then back on again - sometimes this reboot will happen 2 or 3 times in a row.

Panasonic blame orange and orange blame panasonic so I dont know where the blame lies.

It is suspicious though that for the first 6 or 7 months this problem never happened - then all of a sudden in the start of 2004 it started happening and slowly got worse.

Does this mean orange are to blame then ?

When I rang panasonic they said orange had done a change on the network which affects some panasonic handsets - and that I would need to send my phone in for a softwre upgrade to resolve the problem.

I havent done this yet because they say it will take 7 to 10 "working" days (so that could be 2 weeks) and I would loose all data on the phone.

This is pathetic - surely they have the ability to save the data from the phone using a data cable?

Its their problem they should deal with it not us!

I have used 150 memory locations in my phone book - I do not want to have to manually put them all in again !

So I left it for a bit but the problem just got worse.

So I spoke to orange again and they said there are some orange shops who can do this software upgrade without loosing the data on the phone. It takes about 15 minutes.

The trouble is there are only about 5 shops in the country that can do this and none of them are near me - as usual its places like London that have the shops capable of doing this update.

Anyway, my mate went to the Trafford Centre in Manchester where theres an orange shop which can do this upgrade - so I gave him my phone to take to the shop.

Guess what.... he was told that the woman who normally does the update wasn't there that day so they couldnt do it !!!

Pathetic !

So Im still with a rubbish phone which doesnt work properly.

DO NOT BUY A PANASONIC PHONE !

I WISH I HADN'T AND NEVER WILL AGAIN !

I bought a panasonic GD87e also for the picture/screen quality which is quite good. The phone overall has been a let down. The battery life is poor and i have had the same problem with the phone switching itself off when I send or receive text messages. I also spoke to orange who told me "its a common fault with these phones" and to contact panasonic directly. The funny thing is it started about the same time as you in Jan 04 and I think it might be down to the network as when I was at home in Manchester I had no problems but in Cardiff it happens regularly!!! I have had the phone stolen now anyway so I dont have to worry about it anymore and I am not going to be buying another Panasonic!
