I currently own a VI TME, I've had it for approx. 6 months now. If you are seriously considering buying then I strongly suggest you visit MLR forum on www.lancerregister.com. This site has a VERY good buyers guide which has all you need to know about the car - history, spec, servicing, costs, models etc. Therefore, I will concentrate on my personal experiences with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI.
I have always had a keen interest in cars which are not only quick in a straight line but also handle well around corners. This is one area where the EVO excels - I mean no car can touch it, Porsches, Ferrari's, M3's etc unless driven by an experienced driver. If your daily commute consists of driving through country lanes and back routes then you will love this car.
Make no mistake this car is also damn quick in a straight line (0-60 in around 5 secs, magazines quote 4.3 which it will do but only if you want to kill your clutch).
All this performance and 4 seats and decent boot, so what's the catch?. Well, even though it is based on a family car (I know, it is hard to believe somewhere in all those bulges lies a Lancer)it is not your average 4 door family car. Make no mistake this car is expensive to run. I will give you a short list of the expenses I have encountered:
It ONLY drinks super unleaded (do not believe anything else)
Insurance group is 20 (to be expected as it goes like stink)therefore expect big premiums
Needs servicing every 4,500k (I tell u no lie, this car needs more attention then my girlfriend)
Car will go through brakes, tyres, clutches like its no tomorrow
Modifications- no matter how much you tell yourself you're not going to buy any extra's, you always do.. exhausts, filters....etc be prepared as this usually ends up being the most expensive cost of all!!
I was fully prepared of the costs above when I bought the car however a lot of people are not. So leave a bit of cash spare when buying your car for some of the items above. After all, this is a very high performance car and as such will have high costs to maintain it.
In summary, I think this car is damn good and it's got the looks to back up the performance. As long as you are fully prepared with the ownership costs no other car can touch it for thrills.
This car loses one star purely due to the cost of ownership (that 4.5k service was just a tad too much for my liking)
