General Comments

Skytours brochure states SOME 1 bedroom apartments at Sol Y Mar in Cla Bona (Mallorca) are situated in the annexe at rear of main building. There are 32 1 bedroom apartments and only 2 are situated in the main building. The remaining 30 apartments are in the annexe and all have a view of a building site - bricks, scaffolding, corrugated metal sheeting and a great big red crane!

Cots provided were dangerous due to ill fitting matresses and one was a death trap!

Twin buggy access ZERO - had to go out and buy 2 single buggies for 7 month old twins.

Approximately 20' high screen put up at kiddies pool end to either shield sunbathers from building site or to stop debris falling into kiddies pool - this blocked the sun from the top sun terrace for most of the afternoon.

Kiddies pool never cleaned during 2 week stay despite being drained so that mosaic tiles could be re-stuck.

Mould on bedroom wall and around bath, sunken drain in bathroom, had to wait 4 days for a can opener and poolside bins were overflowing on more than one occasion

Iv'e been looking for these apartments on the internet, and i came across your comments. As a group of 16 going next september 2003 to these apartments i am glad i read it. Do you know what the 6 birth apartments are like as this is what we have booked. We were made to believe these are in the main building and at the time of booking was told that building works would be finished.

All 2 bedroom apartments are situated in the main building. Size wise, according to friends we met out there, they were small in comparison with our 1 bedroom apartments in the annexe, apparently some have bunkbeds? All apartments in the main building have sea view and it is quite a nice view, however it's on a main road and friends complained of noise from both road traffic and the bar underneath. Plus points are - the supermarket underneath and there's also one across the road (beach side) and both are fairly reasonably priced. If you are travelling with babies I would reccommend you take a travel cot of your own as I really wouldn't trust the cots provided. We are still fighting Thomson who so far have ignored the content of most of my letters and have offered us a £50 holiday voucher for the mould in our room! This is despite me saying in numerous letters that I will NEVER EVER travel with Thomson again!!!!! They have not apologised for giving us the holiday from hell and despite me challenging them to put in black and white that this was an acceptable standard of a Thomson holiday, they have so far refused to do so! Good luck, I just hope you're holiday is better than ours, this one will be remembered for all the wrong reasons!

I stayed at the solymar last June with my husband, brother and sister-in-law. We had a two bed apartment in the main block on the first floor. I found the apartment adequate although my husband and I had to sleep in bunk beds in a room that was too small to dress in.
The main bedroom was a fair size, as was the bathroom, lounge and small kitchenette. We found that our apartment was cleaned every day and had no problem with that. The building work was going on and the early start of work meant we were woken up early each morning.
The entertainment was awful, with untalented holiday reps leading karoke everynight after the mandatory game of bingo.
The resort is lovely, quite and within easy walking distance from the next resort Cala Millor, which is lively with better beaches.
We are planning to go again this year on a late deal but we will not be staying at the sol y mar.
    Rating: Sol y Mar 2/10
    Resort: ~Cala Bona 6/10

ENJOYED ALL YOUR REVIEWS.THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW.AS I SAID I GO WITH A PARTY OF 16 IN SEPTEMBER 2003.THE TRAVEL AGENT TOLD US ABOUT THE BUILDING SITE LAST YEAR WHEN WE BOOKED.THEY SAID IT WOULD BE FINISHED BY THE TIME WE GOT THERE 14 MONTHS LATER.I WILL BE HAVING WORDS WITH THE AGENT,BUT IN ALL HONESTY,OUR PARTY HAVE 6 BERTH ROOMS,(WHICH APPARENTLY ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOTEL TO THE BUILDING WORKS)WE ONLY USE THE ROOMS FOR SLEEPING & CHANGING.(WE DONT EVEN BOTHER WITH THE ENTERTAINMENT)WE MAKE OUR OWN.BEEN TO THIS PART OF THE ISLAND BEFORE,IT IS VERY NICE.(IF YOU PEOPLE LIKE THE RESORT TRY THE ATALAYA)ITS IN THE THOMSON BOOK,BUT IN CALA MILLOR.CLEAN & CENRAL.I WILL LET YOU ALL KNOW HOW OUR STAY WAS,WHEN WE GET BACK.THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS.

I enjoyed all the reviews but feel quite concerned as I have booked for a party of six which will be staying in the two bedroom appartments. when booking there was no mention of the bunk beds hopefully we won't have them but I can't see the other couples sleeping in them as they are alot older than myself and my husband. we normally have a good time where ever we go but the summer holidays is one thing we work hard for all year round and would not appreciate appartments with mould and over flowing bins by the pool side. please if there is any one who have stayed in these appartments during june 2003, please let me know if there has been any improvments to the rooms and pool side.

I've just returned from the Sol Y Mar and myself ,wife and two children thought they were great, we might be easily pleased, the only thing that bothered us was the noise from the traffic at the front, other than that when you're booking late deals you're taking a chance, we did'nt hear the building works and it must be said they have to work on them at sometime. Our room had bunk beds, I thought the apartment was a fair size and OK for six lads to sleep and get ready for nights out.

I have just booked to go to the sol y mar apartements for august 2oo4, with my partner and three children. We have booked a 2 bedroom apartment.
I would like to hear from anyone who travels in the 2003 season to the sol y mar to see if any improvements have been made regarding some of the reveiws on this site and whether the building works are finished because when we booked the travel agent did not mention any building work.
