Good Points

The DreamCast is a great system for the money, especially in today's market. While it may not sport a lot of the hardware beef that the PS2 or Xbox do, it still packs quite a punch of power for it's cost.

Bad Points

The only bad point with the DreamCast is that it's hard to find games for it anymore, but when you do they are often cheap (I have never paid more than 5 dollars for an american for a game).

General Comments

The Sega DreamCast is a great system for the money, especially in today's market. While it may not sport a lot of the hardware beef that the PS2 or XBOX do, it still packs quite a punch of power for it's cost. The games are great, and it has quite a large library, in fact a few games that started on the DreamCast have made their way to the newer nexgen systems (E.G Resident Evil : Code Veronica has been ported to the PS2).
The system sports a Hitachi SH-4 200mhz CPU and 16 megs of system ram, with 8 megs of ram on a NEC PowerVR chipset (which supports Anti Aliasing, do you see that in any other systems?), not to mention it's Yamaha Sound system with 2 megs of onboard ram for itself, which made it a good competitor to the N64 which had only a 66mhz CPU with 2 megs of ram. (4 megs after you bought the N64 Expansion Pak.) Also, the DreamCast proprietary CD format holds a whole gigabyte, much more than the Playstation's 650 meg cd's. Another thing that makes the DreamCast unique, is it's Windows CE Compatability, which gives end users the ease of programming for the DreamCast, a whole slew of homebrew apps and user created games have been released on the net with easy access to download for the average user. Everything from the Super Nintendo to the Sony PlayStation to VCD's have been emulated for the DreamCast, giving it a serious edge over other consoles.
Bottom line is, the only crime Sega commited when making the DreamCast, was not sticking with it, they allowed themselves to be over-taken far to easily. If you are lucky enough to find one of these little gems in a bargain bin, or a pawn shop, the video game gods have smiled upon you.

Nice review, but just a slight correction on the point about the N64 CPU speed - it actually runs at 97.4 Mhz, not 66Mhz. Sorry to be picky!
