Good Points

Cool looks with metal face plate, build-in modem with HSCSD up to 56kbps, 1000 address phone entry, dictaphone, tone composer, 5 lines x 12-34 characters display with cool icon, quite systematic user-friendly menu, fair battery life.

Bad Points

Keypad button quite stiff and difficult to press.

General Comments

Actually the Siemens s40 mobile phone is not a Siemens original product, it is a Bosch phone but then brought out by Siemens as their own phone product. This website give a reference: http://www.cellular.co.za/bosch_1886_wap.htm
I have siemens c30 and then get s40. Both are products of Bosch. S40 is a more serious and powerful phone than c30 (like a basic phone but also cool looks), u would feel that the engineer that design the phone has the goal to produce a powerful weapon phone. It is tri-band, with build-in high speed modem, pda-liked function of big memory address book with synchronize function to pc or pda, IrDA, calendar funtion with event reminder.... everything for a business person. And also it has a ultra cool outlook, metal face top give it a firm and solid feeling, its packing is bulky, feeling very solid when hold in hand. Its blue backlit screen looks very cool in dark. Its ringtone is loud with various cool sounds. Reception is strong enough and it can maintain minimum reception loss. Speaker and sound quality is satisfactory, noise is accepetable, although it is not the best among other same class phone. Its menu function is not similar with other popular phones but easy to familiar its menu after some using time.

The weakest point of this phone is the unstability of the software. Actually the early software version has many bugs that needs to fix before this phone goes into the market, but siemens did not do it. Then it has several upgrade version to correct it and make it becomes more stable. I think this is the main point that so much bad comments at the beginning products, then the later products with newest software version that wins more admiration.

I beileve it is not a simple phone, more time using this phone will know it is a great phone and wouldn't want to change to other popular and expensive phone.
