General Comments
Lush Freeze Gel - I was wandering round the Lush store in our local town recently when it suddenly occurred to me that I had never used any of the shower gels that they produce. I am not really sure why this is, but probably is due to the fact that I always spend so much money on other items that by the time I reach the shower gel section that is located at the rear of the store, I am normally already berating myself for succumbing to temptation and spending a fortune once again.
This time I decided to head for the shower gels as soon as I entered the shop. Lush do a fine range of items for the shower and bath, from bath melts to soaps and bubble bars to bath ballistics. The shower gel range is slightly smaller, but all are brightly coloured and packaged in minimalistic bottles with the distinctive Lush labels on the front.
The Freeze shower gel is available in three sizes. A 100g bottle costs £2.40, 250g will set you back £4.30 and the largest size, 500g, costs a whopping £7.50. Although this is quite expensive for a shower gel, I was happy to hand over the money, because I'm a Lush devotee and know they only used the finest ingredients in their products.
There were two factors why I decided on the Freeze gel over the other varieties on the shelves. The first was that it contains peppermint, a fragrance that I totally adore, and the second was the colour. A bright vibrant shade of aqua, the shower gel not only looks appealing through the transparent plastic bottle, but indicated to me that the gel was going to smell delicious, and the peppermint was also going to leave me feeling invigorated after my morning shower. I suppose peppermint-scented products normally will be green in colouring but it didn't deter me a bit.
The following morning I awoke from my deep slumber and was just about to roll over again when I remembered I had a new shower gel to try. After turning on the shower and hopping under the cascading jets of water, I opened the lid of the bottle and prepared for the wonders of another Lush product.
The smell from the shower gel is gorgeous. The peppermint scent is very strong and one could almost be forgiven for likening it to a minty toothpaste. The minty smell was totally scrummy, and strong enough for my nostrils to inhale an almost icy blast of mint. The shower gel itself is extremely thick and almost gloopy, so there is no chance of any of it being wasted when distributing it onto the body, another bonus, as thin shower gels tend to squirt everywhere but on the bits I want to wash.
Unfortunately, the shower gel has no means by which to hang it in the shower cubicle, as the top is a simple flip top lid, which means the bottle has to be either held during the showering process, or placed on the floor of the cubicle which is a bit of a pain.
Freeze is transparent, which suits me fine, as I have a bit of an aversion to pearlised shower gel, for no apparent reason! As soon as the shower gel made contact with my skin, a bolt of icy coldness spread over me. The mint properties certainly hit the spot, as a tingling sensation spread over every part of my body as I washed. A creamy concoction of soapy minty bubbles quickly appear, and the gel lathers really quickly, even using a small amount.
Although the peppermint scent is very strong and quickly fills the shower room, there is a very faint floral, almost medicinal smell to the shower gel, and although barely noticeable, it is there.
I felt revitalised as soon as the gel came into contact with my body. Apart from Original Source, I have never used a shower gel that is so invigorating and I would say that Lush Freeze is possibly better. It may sound expensive at £7.50 a bottle, but believe me, the gel lasts for a long time as you really only need a small amount.
My skin feels soft and fragrant after using the gel, and the peppermint smell is very noticeable for hours afterwards. After showering with Freeze, my skin feels squeaky clean and stays silky smooth all day, as well as smelling gloriously minty.
Sea and spring water is used in the preparation of the Freeze Shower Gel and it is probably due to this that the gel has the skin softening properties. The shower gel can also be used as a shampoo and I must admit I was a little wary of using it as such, but my fears were unfounded. Freeze sets the scalp alive with its tingling properties, and lathers into a cascade of minty bubbliness. My hair was silky smooth after using it, as well as smelling fantastic, so I would thoroughly recommend it. A shower gel and a shampoo that makes you feel this good can't be a bad thing.
