General Comments

Wow...What can I say...Brand New amazed me with their first release ("Your Favorite Weapon") and they have managed to do it again with Deja Entendu. First off, before listening to this I must warn you: YOU CAN NOT BE CLOSE-MINDED ABOUT YOUR MUSICAL TASTE! Yes, it IS different than "Your Favorite Weapon" but after a while, you will realize, the change was for the better. Also...Jesse's lyrics are simply amazing. Now..a run-down of the tracks.

1.Tautou: Hmm..not much to say. A good little intro. A cool little guitar riff leads you into some hushed vocals. Although it only clocks in at 1:42, right away, you know to expect somthing different.

2.Sic Transit Gloria ... Glory Fades: This your more traditional emo/punk song. Heavy distorted guitars and some screaming...not to mention a wicked bass line.

3.I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light: Good song...starts off slower and acoustic but builds.

4.Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't: Starts off with quiet guitar and hushed vocals, but explodes into energy in the chorus. Excellent vocals as well.

5.The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows: Excellent song. It sounds more like the songs off "Your Favorite Weapon" My personal favorite.

6.The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot: Clever title...nice acoustic ballad. I'm pretty sure it is like an apoligy note.

7.Jaws Theme Swimming: This is one of the weaker songs on the album...It has kind of a funk feel to it...some good bass to. (Anyone know what the title means???)

8.Me Vs. Maradona Vs. Elvis: Starts off extremly quiet with very soft vocals, but is rockin' towards the end. Clever lyircs. (Again..Does anyone get the title???)

9.Guernica: This song is about Jesse's grandpa being diagnosed with cancer. Good song...a little more "Your Favorite Weapon-ish" Clever lyrics as well.

10.Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die: This is probably the weakest track on the album. Good lyrics...but in my opinion the song is slow and boring.

11.Play Crack The Sky: Awesome acoustic ballad...The lyrics are a cool metaphore about heartbreak...nice song to finish out with.

So, go out..slap down $10 bucks and buy the album. You won't regret it...it's worth every cent!

For Jaws theme swimming listen to the bass line then try to slow it in your head it is the jaws theme. and I have no clue for the other one, great reveiw by the way. p.s if I need attention all I have to do is die(or whatever) is a great song I reccon it's one of the best on the album.
