Good Points

Easy installation, quick reference provided, manual easy to understand, software driver and utility disk included. Up to date features.

Bad Points

No sound at this point. On board sound doesn't work. I've been working with this board for two days now since putting it together. I need sound. If anyone can help, let me know.

General Comments

See the good points and bad points. If anyone can help with what I might have done wrong to get no on board sound, please post a comment on my review. I installed the drivers, they show up in system info, device manager. My speakers are plugged into the speaker jack in the back. Other than the sound, I too heard a negative comment about this board from a co-worker but decided to try it for myself. I'm very satisfied except for the sound problem and I'm sure I'll figure that out somehow. I can't give 10 stars as I don't know anything that would deserve ten stars. I rate it highly just the same. I put in an AMD 2000 XP chip and the AMD utility shows it running at 1.666mhz. I'm looking forward to upgrading faster than that later in the year.

I know your exact problem, look in the bios, then go into Chipset Features and have a look around to check if all aspects of sound are switched to enabled

I ended up going to Microsoft's website and it pointed me to the Start/Help/Troubleshooter file. I clicked on Sound as my problem and I was presented with several steps to take. I never thought to look into the Control Panel/Multimedia settings. I think there was my problem. It was showing two sound drivers for the AC'97, one working okay and the other showing it has a problem. After disabling the one with the problem and re-booting, there was sound. Now, I ask why was there two of the same drivers showing and how can I get rid of one for good? I now have no errors left with this motherboard and give it a good solid rating of 10.

First look at the BIOS version first because if you upgraded with the other mainboard version (GA-7VRXP BIOS)the sound didn't work.
Second in the "Integrated Pheripheals" -BIOS you will find SOUND , put it on AUTO and you will have sound but on a bad quality (my opinion)
