“I have had my .177 BSA Supersport for some years now...”

Good Points
Accurate, Excellent Quality, Reliable, sturdily built.

Bad Points
Slightly stiff safety mechanism.

General Comments
I have had my .177 BSA Supersport for some years now and have done very well with it. I bought it for £250 including a scope and a tin of Eley Wasp.

Upon firing it I did notice that the recoil was quite substantial but this can be easily fixed by fitting a gas ram (which I have and well recommend). The trigger pull is adjustable 2 stage and is factory set to be quite stiff, so there may be some work needed there.

I have had many a rabbit with my trusty BSA up to about 45yrds, mine is the standard model so pops out at just under the 12ft pounds mark, but it is more than up to the job of humanley dispatching medium sized quarry at around the 35-40 yrds mark, im sure it could strike further than that but i have not attempted this.

I firmly beleive the best ammo for this gun is the Accupell .177, it is all I ever use and I very rarely miss.

All in all the BSA Supersport is a fantastic, reliable hard working gun that will not break into the trust fund and is up to just about all the jobs you will need it for.

I`ve only within the last couple of weeks bought a BSA Supersport .22 rifle and though I`m pleased with it wonder if its worth getting the Gas Ram system fitted to it to help with the recoil the rifle gives when fired.
Theres some talk I`ve heard about replacing the spring with a more beefy one to increase the overall power - If this was done wouldn't this make the recoil worse? Accuracy would be worse also, I would have thought

The Gas Ram is a replacement for the spring which eliminates the bunching and friction that goes on so makes the fireing smoother. It might increase power if your spring is tired but that is not the main reason to fit one. They are around £50 so quite a bit more than a new spring (£10-£12).

One tip if you change the spring, let the replacement bed in for a while (and take the scope off while you do it).It will probably be over power and you will have to cut it down to get under 12ft/lb. I cut mine down and was getting 11.5 then left it for a month and it was down to 10.5! Duh, I have another spring but can't be bothered to change it just yet - the power is fine for me. Taking the scope off saves all the jolting from the dieseling as the grease burns off - you see blue smoke.

I have a Supersport Carbine and it is a super rifle (.22). I know that they are more expensive than the Chinese imports but they are much more satisfying to own.

Regards,
Steve
