General Comments

I have an L reg metallic blue Peugeot 106 xsi 1.4 which I purchased for less than £1000 at an auction. I was looking to buy a slightly bigger car at the time, but this baby just looked so cute. It is absolutely spotless inside and out and looks almost brand new even though it is 10 years old. I was amazed that I left behind a Golf GTI and a souped up Vauxhall Corsa at the lights the other day, I was grinning ear to ear at the looks I got from the occupants of the other cars at the next set of lights.
As standard, the car looks very sporty, I am thinking of putting some wider wheels on it. I just like the way it growls when you put your foot on the accelerator. The ride is a bit bumpy, might be my shocks whih I will possibly change in the nearest future and possibly a few functional gadgets for the inside and a nice stereo (the one in it at the moment doesn't work!!! :-( . It is a proper sports car and handles well round corners.

The reason you left that golf GTI behind at the lights was A) because it wasnt racing you or B) because you dreamt it. There is no way on earth a 306 xsi would beat a golf gti being driven properly. The power to weight ratio is much bigger on the golf and it had more power to begin with.

Actually it would beat a Golf Gti. It has 100bhp standard and weighs around 700kg. A golf has a 2.0L engine but weighs over 1 tonne. Think power to weight ratio - why would an F1 car beat a 6.0L engined Hummer even though the engine is smaller...because its lots lighter!

what 306 xsi? I thought this was a 106 xsi review!

Anyway, how do you know the power/weight ratio of the golf he beat when he didn't say which series/version it was. Mk3 8v's are so slow its laughable. I presume you mean the mk1 which is the only one that is lighter than the 106, in which case you would be making sense.

I was talking about the mk 1 or the mk 2 beause they are fast. The mk 3 and 4 are slow but even an mk 4 is 150 bhp.

I have owned a Peugot 106 XSi for 3 years and agree that it has an edge on a majority of bigger engined cars. And yes I do admit to driving like a pleb but it proves that Peugeot's engines are the mutts nuts, besides it will out-rev and out-brake almost anything. Golf GTi's are no match for 7500 rpm!! Two of my friends drive Fiesta's, ones an XR2i and the other a Zetec-s(1.6 16valve), and the pug leaves them both standing. now that says somethin!!!
