Great standard,
Excellent modified,
Drivers car,
Lightweight,
Tort chassis,
Classic GTI styling,
Direct steering,
Great cheap track car,
Loads of tuning parts available.
Its no drag racer (but it'll beat most round the corners),
Needs soundproofing,
Standard gearshift too clunky,
Too many badly modified versions out there.
My Citroen Saxo VTR is a `98 R which I bought for £3000. I was immediately impressed with the handling, it sticks to the road and unlike some other French cars (such as the 306) you won't find yourself in the ditch without any warning. You get just enough feedback to make driving near the limit safe, but still adrenaline pumping.
The components are typically cheap, however i've raced the car around race circuits all over the country and very little of consequence has gone wrong. Having recently modified my car, i've stripped the interior out, added some lightweight seats, coilover suspension, uprated the brakes, exhaust and intake system and raced the nuts off it yet still the car doesn't want to die.
All this can be done yourself for around £3000. I haven't driven a car yet that costs as little as six grand after modification yet handles and is as much fun as mine is. MODIFIED OR UNMODIFIED THE SAXO COMES HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE SEEKING THRILLS AND A TEST OF SKILLS ON A LIMITED BUDGET! BUY IT! RACE IT!
